Iron Throne Cupcakes

Things You’ll Need

  • Chocolate cupcakes

  • Pretzel sticks

  • Edible silver color spray

Step 1

Start with chocolate cupcakes and chocolate frosting to create a dark base for the throne. To create the throne, insert pretzel sticks into the back of the cupcakes in a fanned out position. Use whole pretzels in the center and then break some pretzels in half so they are shorter on the sides.

Step 2

Spray the cupcakes with edible silver spray. You don't have to coat the entire cupcake—concentrate the spray on the pretzels and frosting.

Frost milano cookies with chocolate frosting.

Step 2

Stick sliced almonds into the chocolate frosting, overlapping them to form a "dragon scale" pattern. You don't want the almonds to lay completely flat in the frosting, but rather slightly raised up to create texture.

Step 3

Melt dark green candy melts in the microwave and use a spoon to drizzle it over the cookies. Use a toothpick to smooth the melted candy over the almonds and work it into the spaces between the almonds.

Tip

Before crumbling the cake, trim off the thin outer layer of cake on the top, bottom and sides. By using just the inside part of the cake, it will ensure the cake pop mixture is moist and won't fall apart.

Step 3

Scoop out a heaping tablespoon of the mix for each cake pop and roll it into balls.

Step 4

Melt 1/4 cup of white candy melts in the microwave and dip lollipop sticks into the melted candy. Immediately insert the lollipop sticks into the center of each cake pop, about halfway through.

Step 5

Freeze the cake pops for about 15 minutes to help them set, and then remove from the freezer. Melt more white candy melts in the microwave and pour the mixture into a glass. Dip each cake pop into the melted candy (straight up and down—don't swirl) and allow the excess to drip off.

Step 6

Stick the cake pops into a block of styrofoam and let the candy coating harden. Use red icing gel to draw "blood" dripping down the sides of each cake pop.
